Why Use a Laser Cutter to Engrave
Laser cutters are regularly used in industry to cut patterns. I have also seen youtube videos where they are used to distress denim.
For My own purposes, I mainly use a laser to add sashiko patterns. The alternative is to use a whit pen and a template.
My Process
I have a cheap Sculpfun Laser cutter:
I then use lightburn software to control this:
This software is very powerful as it allows you to download patterns or images and them capture them as vectors for burning.

I salvaged a heap of drill work shirts, so I engraved sashiko patterns onto these.
